Video’s – the next big thing for small businesses

We all love videos – YouTube enables us to spend (waste?!) hours watching videos of laughing babies, crazy cats and cringe-worthy Idol auditions. But there is a more serious and very useful side to video if you are a small business: “According to Forrester Research, watching a one-minute video has the impact of reading 1.8 million words.” That’s a LOT of words!

This article xad some good tips for using video to market your small business. And before you’re tempted to think “But is that really relevant in Africa? Are people really watching video?”, consider these statistics: Over 300 million people in Africa are expected to own a smartphone by 20171 and there are an estimated 80 million active social network users2.  Facebook highlighted in June that twice as many people watch videos on Facebook compared to six months ago (read here). Video has definitely become an essential part of the small business marketing strategy and toolkit.
