Zimbabwe is calling – tourism and tourism investment is on the rise!

If you suggest Zimbabwe as a holiday destination to people in the UK, USA or Australia, you will probably get some funny looks. It’s not a place people think to come on holidays – people are more likely to think of Zim as a place people are leaving, rather than going to. We would go as far as to say that Zim has become one of Africa’s best kept secrets. While still a way off its glory days in terms of service and facilities, Zim boasts Victoria Falls (one of the seven natural wonders of the world), the World Heritage listed Matopos National Park and Great Zimbabwe Monument, Hwange National Park, Lake Kariba, Eastern Highlands and more.

But it’s not going to remain a secret for long! Word is starting to get out there and people are starting to see the potential we have always known is there! The government has given priority to the tourism sector of the economy and their efforts are already seeing fruit with rises in hotel bed occupancy and tourist figures from 2014 to 2015. Helping this along further, Mail & Guardian Africa and the Zimbabwe Embassy in South Africa are hosting a Zimbabwe Tourism Investment Summit in Durban in late November this year. This is welcome news as tourist dollars, word of mouth and international promotion are all key to continuing to open up Zim to international travel and investment and putting us back on the map as a must go destination for tourists and businesses.
